Celebrating One Year!

4/4/23

Today marks one year since Blue Hour Counseling launched. This year has been full of growth, learning, mistake-making, more learning, and, most of all, gratitude. The support that Blue Hour Counseling has received since its opening is a gift that I hope to treasure for the rest of my career.

To my fellow therapists and colleagues in the mental health community: Thank you for the guidance and wisdom you’ve graciously shared throughout this process. @Adriana, I remember eating Thai food with you about a year ago, scared out of my mind by the unknowns of starting a private practice. Your belief in me that day is something that I’ve leaned on several times this last year. I am forever grateful to you. @Jessavia and @Cady, I won the lottery with you two. Your support and friendship have aided me in becoming a better person and therapist. I am grateful to you both.

To the online mental health community: Thank you! Social media has created a gateway to learning about mental health from excellent therapists across Texas, and the U. S. Thank you for every ounce of support you have given!

To my friends and family: Your belief in Blue Hour and the support extended to this practice has been everything. I would (literally) not be here without some of you. From all of my heart, thank you.

B, L, and A. My home and heart. You’re the greatest champion of Blue Hour. My heart and soul are lucky to have you. Thank you.

And lastly, thank you to my clients from Wilson County and throughout Texas. Ten years ago, I couldn’t have predicted that I would be moving back to my home community to open up a mental health counseling practice. This rural part of Texas prides itself on hard work and living proudly by the “pick yourself up by your bootstraps” mantra. While being raised by this philosophy helped me establish the grit and courage required to do hard things, it doesn’t always lend itself to the use of tenderness and self-compassion–key ingredients required for healing and growth. Reaching out for help and going to therapy doesn’t come naturally to folks like us. But so many of you did it anyway. You reached out when you were hurting. You reached out when you were scared. You reached out even when you were unsure of what was to come. Your trust and willingness to do this work has been the greatest gift of all. Thank you.

On to year two!
